Currently, 19 Kazakh citizens remain in Syria, official representative of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry Zhanbolat Ussenov said on Thursday.
"Currently 19 Kazakh citizens remain in Syria. None of them have asked for an evacuation yet. Mainly women married to Syrian citizens, and their children remain. Apparently, for this reason they do not want to go back, " Ussenov noted.

He added that when the situation in Syria began to deteriorate, there were about 220 Kazakh citizens in the country. Plans were developed and necessary measures were taken to evacuate them from Syria.

"We developed all plans in advance; the logistics channels for removal have been worked out. That was the work done mainly by our contacts in neighboring countries - Lebanon and Turkey coordinated with our embassy in Jordan. Since the beginning of last summer, assistance was provided in all areas. Someone had problems with documents, someone could not cross the border, and someone just did not have the money to buy a ticket. Assistance was provided to them, everybody was evacuated and no complaints were made. There were times when our diplomats took out Kazakh citizens from the war zone," Ussenov said.

In addition, he said that the Kazakh embassy in Syria was also evacuated.
"This diplomatic mission is in a neighboring state now. Overall, we have worked out the logistics channels for the removal of citizens. In addition, the citizens themselves do not plan to leave yet. If they contact us, we will be able to assist them," the Foreign Ministry Spokesman said.

Earlier, it was reported that in a year and a half 11 Kazakh women with 27 children were evacuated from Syria.
