BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 2. China Nonferrous Metals Mining Group discusses the development of copper smelter project in Kazakhstan, Trend reports via the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development.
The issue was discussed at the meeting between Kazakh minister Marat Karabayev and Deputy Director General of the Chinese company Liu Yu.
Karabayev noted that the company has successfully implemented such major projects in the country as the Kazakhstan Electrolysis Plant, Aktogay copper-molybdenum porphyry deposit and Bozshakol copper mine.
"I want to thank you for choosing Kazakhstan for investment and expansion of production capacities. Of course, we are interested in attracting investments for the implementation of modern and technological manufacturing industries. For our part, we are ready to provide state support at all stages of the project implementation," the minister said.
Deputy Director General of China Nonferrous Metals Mining Group highly appreciated the level of Kazakh-Chinese cooperation and expressed confidence that this project will give a new impetus to their further strengthening.
Meanwhile, Kazakhmys, the largest copper producer in the country, and KAZ Minerals, a British copper company, are participating in the project as well. The initial production capacity of the plant stands at 300,000 tons of copper cathode per year.
The implementation of the project involves attracting significant capital investments and creating several hundred long-term jobs.
