The coordinator of Kyrgyzstan's opposition Ata-Meken (Fatherland) party says police tried to pressure her into quitting her party and joining the pro-presidential group.
Narkyz Sheralieva, Ata-Meken's coordinator in Kyrgyzstan's Jalal-Abad region, told RFE/RL's Kyrgyz service that several local policemen visited her on January 28 and asked her to quit the opposition party and join pro-presidential Ak Zhol (Bright Path) party.
Sheralieva said the officers also suggested that she appear on television and criticize the leader of the opposition party, which she refused to do.
The Ministry of Interior Affairs did not comment on Sheralieva's claims.
