BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 13. It is planned to sow potatoes in the area of 18,500 hectares in dehkan farms of Tajikistan’s Sughd region in the northwest of the country this year, the agriculture department of the region told local reporters, Trend reports via Tajik media.

According to the department, an area of 1,206 hectares is dedicated to the sowing of early potatoes.

Meanwhile, potatoes have already been planted in the fields with an area of 4,910 hectares in the Sughd region as of April 12, which is 269 hectares more than on the same date in 2022. The farmers have completed the plan for potato sowing by 22.1 percent.

The vegetables are planted in the following cities and districts of the region: Asht District, Gafurov District, Kanibadam City, Mastchoh District, Spitamen District, Jabbor Rasulov District, and Penjikent City.

Meanwhile, agricultural production in Tajikistan amounted to 49.3 billion somoni ($4.8 billion) in 2022, which is an increase of 8 percent compared to 2021.

Back in January, Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan Kurbon Hakimzoda said Tajikistan exported more than 191,000 tons of agricultural products worth $54.3 million in 2022.
