Nine Documents Signed During Kuwaiti Emir’s Visit to Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan, Tashkent, 22 July / corr. Trend T.Zhukov / Several large-scale documents, which envisaged expansion of cooperation between Kuwait and Uzbekistan, were inked during the visit of Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir as-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait to Uzbekistan.

According to the Uzbek President's Administration, agreements were signed between governments of two countries to organize joint committee on cooperation, as well as, to cooperate in the fields of health and tourism.

Moreover, the Uzbek Government and the Kuwaiti Arab Economic Development Fund inked a loan agreement on reconstruction and equipment of cardio surgical department of the Uzbek Republican Specialized Surgical Centre in the amount of $12.97mln.

Heads of two countries signed a memorandums on mutual understanding on cooperation in oil and gas field, on mutual understanding of protection of environment and natural resources, on mutual understanding of cooperation between the Uzbek Government and the Kuwaiti Arab Economic Development Fund.

The Uzbek Foreign Ministry of Economic Relations, Investment and Trade and Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al-Kharafi & Sons, the Kuwaiti company, inked a memorandum on construction of hotel in the centre of Tashkent and a Protocol of mutual understanding between this Ministry and the Kuwaiti investment agency.

"Presence of rich energy reserves in our countries is a good opportunity to interact in exploration and development of oil and gas fields," an official statement said. However, both countries are not satisfied with the current trade and economic indicators. The volume of mutual turnover is rather low and basically consists of the Uzbek's export. Uzbekistan and Kuwait decided to review jointly structure of turnover and develop measures to activate mutual trade.

Uzbekistan and Kuwait issued a joint statement at the end of talks. Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir as-Sabah will get familiarization with places of interest of Uzbekistan, Muslim shrines, which are located in Tashkent, Samarqand, Bukhara and Khiv from 22 July to 24 July.
