Malaysian companies to maintain presence in Iran

The deputy of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) stated that despite the sanctions imposed on Iran, Malaysia places special importance on its economic relations with Iran which it wants to safeguard.

Zulkifli Mahmud reiterated that in spite of the sanctions put on Iran by some countries the Islamic Republic is of utmost importance for Malaysian companies and "we want to maintain our position," IRINN reported.

He went on to say that Malaysian goods and services are striving in Iran and they want to expand business here.

Mahmud expressed satisfaction with his country's economic position in Iran and said the Islamic Republic could be a gateway for Malaysia's presence in Iraq.

The MATRADE official noted that 15 companies from his country had taken part in the international industrial exhibition in Tehran and said immediate sales of Malaysian companies in the show had been $440,000 and potential sales and services in the fair stood at $58 million.
