Iran, Italy agree to generate power from flare gas in South Pars

A group of companies affiliated with National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Italian power generation company of Ansaldo Energia on collecting flare gas emitted in South Pars Gas Field.

Under the agreement, the associated gas of the phase 12 of the gas field will be used for generating 1000 megawatt (MW) of power, IRNA news agency reported.

The project in the first stage is expected to produce 600 MW of electricity.

The head of the Italian company, Giuseppe Zampini, and the head of the National Iranian South Oil Company, Bijan Alipour attended the ceremony for inking the MoU.

Iranian Oil Ministry is apparently seeking to protect environment through the project.
