Uzbekistan interested in exporting oil, wheat to Iran

Uzbek Foreign Trade Minister Jamshid Khodjaev said that the country expressed interest in exporting 5,000 tons of oil as well as 100,000 tons of wheat to Iran.

Speaking at the 12th meeting of the joint commission of the two countries for economic cooperation, the Uzbek minister welcomed Iran’s proposal on conducting a free trade agreement saying that the current trade tariffs between the two countries are very high.

He further expressed hopes that the two countries would finalize a free trade agreement in June.

Earlier in the day, Uzbek First Deputy Prime Minister Ochilboy Ramatov said that the two sides are interested in boosting the volume of bilateral trade to $500 million. The volume of bilateral trade over the last year stood at $325 million.

Ramatov, heading an economic delegation, has arrived in Iran on a two-day visit to join the 12th meeting of the joint cooperation of the two countries for economic cooperation.
