Iran's export via railway increases

Iran's export via railway has increased by 105 percent in seven months of the last Iranian year (started March 20,2020), said the Director General of North East Railway Line 2 Mohsen Etemad, Trend reports via Mehr News Agency.

"A total of 284,000 tons of cargo exported via railway in seven months of the last Iranian year," Etemad said.

"Due to COVID-19 outbreak, the railway was closed during first four months of the last Iranian year (started March 20,2020), but export and import resumed in the fifth month of the year," he said.

"A total of $5.2 million worth of projects were implemented, which included two areas for cargo loading and unloading, construction of border control building and railway police, creating fiber optic infrastructure for communication with Atrek station in Turkmenistan and wide line connection," Etemad said.

"Completing the infrastructure at the Incheboron border could create direct jobs for 3,000 people," he said.

"The first phase of building infrastructure for Incheboron railway projects requires $178 million, which includes infrastructure and paving of railway lines, technical overhauls and so on," he said.

"The government has yet to allocate 538 hectares of land for the first phase of the railway," he said.
