Action hero Jackie Chan and a line-up of Asian stars have raised more than 25 million Hong Kong dollars (3.2 million US dollars) for the Japanese relief effort with a concert in Hong Kong, the actor said Saturday, dpa reported.

The three-hour concert held Friday night featured more than 170 artistes who performed and helped man donation hotlines in front of an audience of 10,000 in Hong Kong's Victoria Park.

Chan told the audience, which included Japanese Consul-General to Hong Kong Yuji Kumamaru, that the event was also about providing emotional support for those affected by the disasters.

"We're here to tell the people of Japan - you're not alone," Chan told the audience. He later published photos of the concert, called Artistes 311 Love Beyond Borders, and details of the money raised on a blog on his website.

Hong Kong has so far donated around 12 million US dollars for various organisations helping Japan. The country was hit by a massive earthquake on March 11, which triggered a tsunami that devastated towns and communities on the north-east coast and caused an on-going crisis at the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant.
