Sakrebulo, the self-governing body of Batumi, has rejected the resignation of city mayor Jemal Ananidze.
On Thursday, the City Council decided to deny the request of the mayor by 20 votes "for" and one "against".
Ananidze was appointed the mayor following the elections to the Parliament of Georgia on October 4, 2012.
He is a member of no party, and reasoned the statement for resignation with the fact that, in his opinion, the new majority in the Georgian Dream coalition does not want to see him in this position.
