A human rights committee of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday voted 130-12 to condemn the "continued and widespread systematic" human rights violations in Syria, in particular by the government-controlled Shabbiha militias, DPA reported.

The committee adopted a resolution, citing use of heavy weapons, aerial bombardments and force against civilians by Damascus and the militias. It also cited massacres of civilians, executions and killing of protesters and journalists. There were 35 abstensions.

The resolution called on the Syrian government to "immediately put an end to all human rights violations and attacks against civilians."

The resolution was sent to the 193-nation assembly for a final and expected approval vote.
