The Italian contingent working within the United Nations Interim Forces in Southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) has arrested two people disguised as cleaning workers trying to smuggle explosives into Lebanon, Lebanon's Future Television reported Sunday.
The two people were being interrogated by the Italian contingent in southern Lebanon, a Lebanese security source said, without elaborating on the identity of the two people or where they were arrested.
Italy has 2,500 troops working in southern Lebanon. It is the largest contingent working within the UNIFIL force, dpa reported.
The peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon grew from around 2,300 to 15,000, in accordance with a UN Security Council resolution in August 2006 that halted 33 days of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
