Turkish security has launched two separate operations on militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in southern and southeastern Turkey, "Hurriyet" newspaper reported.

Militants were spotted on Mount Cudi in the southeastern Şırnak province, reports said, upon which artillery units on the mountain foot began shelling the targets.

Cobra gunships were also deployed to the area and took the militants under fire as commandos were dropped on the mountain to track the fleeing PKK militants.

A separate operation was launched in the Amanos mountains in the southern province of Hatay by a joint force of 750, which consisted of commandos and special police forces.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
