Turkey will destroy the terrorist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), and thereby remove this issue from the agenda, Haber7 newspaper quotes the head of the Turkish General Staff Necdet Ozel as saying.

"Turkey has achieved considerable results in the fight against terrorism and the important thing was the use of alignment reconnaissance in this issue," Ozel said.

He stressed that over the past six months, the Turkish security forces neutralized 327 terrorists. 165 of them were killed, 50 - captured and 112 gave themselves up.

Ozel also stressed that the Turkish Air Force destroyed 325 militants and wounded 320 as a result of special operations in Iraq.

He said that in October 2008 a single mechanism of fighting terror was created between Turkey, Iraq and the U.S. However, the agreement had no considerable results in combating terrorism.

Turkey has actively begun fighting against terrorism since mid August. The Turkish Air Force makes bombing raids over the positions of the Kurdish separatists in northern Iraq and Turkey.

Air strikes were conducted after a militant terror attack in south-eastern Turkey on Aug. 17, during which nine Turkish servicemen were killed.

In response to the attack of Kurdish militants in Hakkari province bordering with Iraq, which killed 24 Turkish servicemen and wounded 18 on Oct.19 night, the Turkish army launched a major ground operation in five regions of Northern Iraq. The troops consisting of 10,000 military, mainly for special purposes were involved in the operations.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which has continued for more than 25 years, put an end to lives of over 40,000 people. PKK is recognized as terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
