President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva today inaugurated the main arena of the 57th Eurovision Song Contest - the newly constructed Baku Crystal Hall.
The head of state cut the ribbon symbolizing opening of the Hall.
The President and First Lady were informed on the construction of grandiose arena with 25.000 people capacity, its original architecture. As stated, the complex will be further used for other grand concerts, as well as for international events. This is also symbolic that the Crystal Hall is situated in the vicinity of the State Flag Square, which is a more important factor.
Azerbaijan won the right to host the prestigious European song contest after the victory of Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell / Nikki) at Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany last May among 43 world countries. The event is of great political and economic importance for Azerbaijan which is situated at the junction of the East and West. The other notable fact is that such prestigious music contest as Eurovision is for the first time conducted in the South Caucasus. And Azerbaijan succeeded such a triumph after it participated in this music festival for almost four times.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev also attended the opening ceremony of the newly completed stretch of Baku-Alat highway leading to the State Flag Square.
The minister of transport Ziya Mammadov informed the Head of State on the technical parameters of the 2,8 km long new stretch with 3,75 meters of length. The highway leads from Azneft Square to the State Flag Square and further beyond the Bibiheybat Sanctuary.
As stated, the newly opened stretch will lessen transport density in the mentioned residential area.
The President cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of road and inspected the road passages, junctions.
The Baku-Alat Highway is being constructed since 2009 under appropriate Executive Order of the Azerbaijani President.
