Works on disposal of solid wastes in Azerbaijan may commence since 2006, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENS) Huseynaga Bagirov told Trend.

According to him, the optimum plan will be selected till the year-end in this respect. "Building of electrical power stations is being considered among the alternatives. By using the wastes at the power stations we will be able to receive electrical power. We have submitted our proposals to the government and the works are currently under discussion”, the Minister said.

The Ministry carries out preparations of the strategy on liquidation of solid wastes. About $100-110 million will be needed for the construction of the power station where the wastes may be effectively used. The station’s production capacity may be some 112 MWt, while 20% of the fuel will be traditional and the rest are wastes. Processing of 250,000-300,000 tons of wastes at the power station will be possible.
