Astana will become a city of cyclists. The city plans to construct around 74 kilometers of cycle track, the hakimlik (municipality) of the Kazakh capital reported.

"It is planned to have fully constructed cycle tracks by 2030 according to the master plan of the city which was approved by a government decree. The total length of cycle tracks will be about 74 kilometers. They include bicycle lanes as well as parking lots, benches and bike rentals," the official website of the hakimlik reported.

Overpasses, traffic lights and ramps will be built at the intersections of bike lanes with main streets, as well as in places of continuous movement.

It is planned to construct three types of cycle tracks: separate paths, considered exclusively for the movement of cyclists, cycle tracks as part of public road separated from the roadway by concrete barrier or marking, as well as bike lanes as part of sidewalk, separated from the sidewalk by marking or curb.

In addition, special places for bike storage will be organized. Around 4 kilometers of cycle tracks were constructed on Kurgaldzhino road in 2011.
