A number of persons, linked with the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO), have been arrested in Iran on charge of mission for causing turmoil during the upcoming presidential election, the Fars News Agency quoted an unnamed security official as saying.
Some of the arrested persons had been previously jailed for similar activities.
Two of the persons have been recently entered the country with the aim of instructing their agents inside the country, the source said.
Founded in the 1960s, MKO is a Marxist guerilla group, which masterminded a slew of terrorist operations in Iran and Iraq - one of which was the 1981 bombing of the offices of the Islamic Republic Party, in which more than 72 Iranian officials were killed.
Iran will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013.
The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional laws.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
