Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Jan.22 / Trend , E. Hasanov / Minister of International and External Economic Relations of Astrakhan region Askar Kabikeyev is running talks with Turkmenistan in Ashgabat, an official source in Turkmenistan said.

The Astrakhan official, during the meetings in the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, discussed the prospects of expanding co-operation in shipbuilding, transport, trade, construction, oil and gas and humanitarian spheres.

In March 2008, an intergovernmental agreement on trade and economic, scientific and technical and cultural co-operation was signed as a result of the meeting of Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammadov with the governor of Astrakhan region Alexander Jilkin.

Currently, the Astrakhan Shipbuilding and Ship repair factory named after Gujvin repairs two dry cargo ships of Turkmenistan and Caspian fishing industry college is educating Turkmen students. Ashgabat, in its turn, launched building material supplies, especially cement.

The establishment of ferry communications between ports Turkmenbashi and Olya is regarded as a strategic direction in bilateral relations.
