Afghan finance minister resigns

Afghan Finance Minister Anwar Ul-Haq Ahadi has resigned.

President Hamid Karzai accepted his resignation.

Ahadi resigned after his candidacy was nominated for the presidential election, the Afghan Presidential Administration wrote in a message on Feb. 5.

Karzai expressed his gratitude to Ahadi for his contribution to the future of Afghanistan.

The elections will be held in Afghanistan on Aug. 20. Karzai's term expires on May 20.
