Talks between Iran and the U.S. will be held in Baghdad given the current situation in Iraq, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said. He voiced an initiative to create the Tehran-Baghdad-Washington triangle.

Zebari said that the Iranian-U.S. talks will be the foundation of Baghdad's foreign policy in an interview with the Iranian Mehr news agency.

Zebari said Iran is an important Iraqi neighbor.

Iran wants to establish good relations with Iraq and the U.S. has a strong influence in the country, he added.

"There are a range of issues between Iran and the U.S. that need to be resolved. We offer to create the Iran-Iraq-Washington triangle to provide stability in the country and support such initiatives," Zebari said.

"We understand Tehran's concerns as Iranian diplomats have been abducted by the U.S. military in Iraq. We hope the diplomats will be released soon," he added.
