Georgia officially appeals for Russia to assist in the arrest of two Georgian citizens, Merab Kolbaya and Mukhran Tshadaya, hiding in Abkhazia, Nino Kalandadze, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister, said today at a special briefing.

She said that it concerns the individuals involved in the terrorist attacks in Georgia. Now they live in Abkhazia, hiding from the law enforcement bodies of Georgia.

"We appealed to the Russian side through the Swiss Embassy. We called for them to join the investigation and render assistance to Georgia in search of these individuals. We also called for them to detain and interrogate the officer of the Russian Armed Forces Eugeni Borisov," Kalandadze said.

She stressed that this request will be voiced at the Geneva meeting on the prevention of tension in the Caucasus today. The Georgian Foreign Ministry hopes that the Russian side reacts to this acute situation with understanding.

"We hope that the Russian side will positively react to our proposal and help the Georgian law enforcement agencies in detaining terrorists," deputy minister said.

Several terror acts in Georgia from September to November were organized by the Russian special services, Georgia Deputy Interior Minister Eka Zguladze said earlier.

According to the officials, six Georgia citizens were arrested on Dec. 4 for their involvement in the blasts in the regions and Tbilisi. Two explosions sounded in the office of the opposition Labor Party and in front of the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi.

The explosion took place in Tbilisi on the territory adjacent to the building of the U.S. Embassy in Georgia on September 22. An explosive device was found about 40 meters from the entrance to the embassy, under the cemetery wall.
