MP Siyavush Novruzov, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, informed Trend exclusively that the report of the parliamentary Assembly of NATO on South Caucasus, including Azerbaijan, contains many elements which displeases Baku.
The report indicates that the occupation of the Azerbaijani territory to be 13%, instead of 20%. They have also incorrectly identified the names of districts. The document contains many contradictory aspects related to Azerbaijan, he stated.
Novruzov said that the report did not reflect NATO-Azerbaijan's relations in a good light. The participation of armed forces, frontier and interior forces of Azerbaijan in NATO programs is more than twice that of Georgia and Armenia. This confirms the level of NATO-Azerbaijan relationships.
The head of PA NATO Sub-Committee, Vahid Erdem, made a relevant statement during his visit to Baku on 15 October 2006. We also discussed the issue in Paris and Frank Cook, the rapporteur on South Caucasus, noted that indeed the document has many errors and was not produced accurately. Relevant work will be carried out on the document following his visit to the region, the Politician stressed. The issue will be discussed further at the organization's winter session to be held in Canada in November.
