Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Aliyev / Today (22 November) is the 47th meeting of Railway Administrations of CIS and Baltic countries, Finland and Bulgaria.
The Head of the organization, President of 'Russian Railways' LLC, Vladimir Yakunin, said in the opening of the meeting that the CIS Railway Council is one of the most developing organizations in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
According to the Transport Minister of Azerbaijan, Ziya Mammadov, who gave a speech at the meeting, the transport sector is developing very actively in Azerbaijan. This year more than $600mln has been allocated to realize the transport projects in Azerbaijan and next year this figure will total $1bln.
The meeting taking place in Baku is envisaged to focus on the issues of co-operation amongst the administrations of the CIS participating countries, as well as the 2008 action plan.
During the 46th meeting of the CIS Railway Council in Astana, the heads of the railway administrations adopted a new schedule for the movement of passengers and cargo trains in the network of CIS -participating countries. The schedule came into force on 27 May 2007.
