The Kazakh Agriculture Ministry has developed a plan for dairy cattle breeding development in 2014-2020 to significantly increase milk production, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported with the reference to the ministry's head Asylzhan Mamytbekov.

"Due to implementation of the plan, milk production in the country will increase by 1.7 million tons by 2020. Milk imports will greatly reduce, while milk consumption per capita will increase despite a steady growth of the population," Mamytbekov said.

According to the minister, the plan envisages the construction of 20 industrial dairy farms accommodating 1,200 head of dairy cattle each that will produce 158,400 tons of milk.

Moreover about 2000 mini-farms having 24, 50, 100 and 200 head of dairy cattle will be built in the regions. The Agriculture Ministry forecasts these farms will produce 740,000 tons of milk whose prime price will be quite low.
"The capacity of all new farms will hit 954,000 tons with the remaining 770,000 tons we plan to get from the existing farms following selection and breeding work and improving the food supply," Mamytbekov said.

The minister said the government will allocate 32 million tenge (153.15 tenge = $1) towards this project.
