Georgia's Anaklia Deep See Port and Baku International Sea Trade Port will elaborate new services along the Middle Corridor, Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC) told Trend.
“Anaklia and Baku ports, being on the crossroad of Europe and Asia are among key players on the Middle Corridor. When Anaklia becomes operational, ports will have an opportunity to elaborate new services and rates along the corridor and facilitate attraction of additional cargo flow to the Caucasus Transit Corridor,” said the consortium.
ADC said that both parties meet each other quite frequently, as they are developing partnership relations.
“Anaklia recently became a member of Trans Caspian International Transit Route. The association has its own plan for holding internal meetings, which helps members in exchange of information and setting new goals. In addition to this, Anaklia port was a participant of IAHP Baku 2018 World Ports Conference in May 2018, which was an additional purpose for representatives of ports to meet and hold discussions,” said the consortium.
The Caucasus Transit Corridor (CTC) links Azerbaijan and Georgia with Europe, China, Kazakhstan and other regional partners. The corridor has the potential to be a serious player in connecting China with Western Europe, which receives 16 percent of all Chinese exports. It also has potential to become an important component of China’s Belt and Road initiative. Freight shippers, which now prefer other routes for such goods, would switch to CTC if it offers cost-efficient and high quality transportation and logistics services.
Anaklia Deep See Port and Baku International Sea Trade Port signed a memorandum of understanding in November 2017. The signing ceremony took place during the Belt and Road Summit 2017 which was held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC) is an international consortium which combines international and local companies with specialized experiences in their respective fields. It is working with the government of Georgia to execute and fulfill Anaklia Deep Sea Port project.
