Government of Uzbekistan takes additional measures to ensure compliance of its agricultural, organic products' quality with international standards, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan National News Agency.
As reported, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a corresponding decree approving the Concept of development of production of organic agricultural and organic food products in Uzbekistan and the Road Map for its implementation.
Ministry of Agriculture is an authorized state body to coordinate and regulate the activities of all interested organizations within the framework of organic production and good agricultural practice (Global G.A.P.), the report says.
Uzstandart Agency, together with the State Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Health, the State Committee for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Development, the State Inspection for Plant Quarantine under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Innovative Development, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were tasked to develop, within a month, a plan of programs to enhance trade with the European Union in accordance with the requirements of the Alimentarius Codex Commission standards for the period from 2020 through 2024.
Under the decree, the sowing of crops on land designated for organic agriculture is carried out taking into account the requirements of organic standards.
In order to organize organic agriculture and production systems based on international standards, a draft law on organic agricultural production shall be developed by October 1, 2020.
The Tashkent State Agrarian University will develop teaching materials for training specialists in the area of organic agriculture, and starting from the 2021/2022 academic year, students will be admitted to acquire qualifications in this area.
