Iran plans to increase mushroom production and exports

It is estimated that Iran will produce 165,000 tons of mushrooms in the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021), Director General of Greenhouses, Ornamental Plants and Edible Mushrooms Affairs Office under the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad Gholamreza Taghavi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The director-general stressed that however, Iran planned to produce 180,000 tons of mushrooms this year.

Taghavi added that Iran exported 942 tons of mushrooms worth $2.54 million in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 20 through November 20, 2020).

“The mushroom was exported to the countries around the Persian Gulf (Iraq, Qatar, Oman, and the UAE), CIS countries, including Azerbaijan,” he said.

The director-general noted that it is planned to increase exports of greenhouse products, mushrooms, flowers, and ornamental plants to the Eurasian Economic Union member countries and the countries around the Persian Gulf.

According to him, 2,880 enterprises in Iran are currently engaging in mushrooms growing.

Taghavi emphasized that 2.46 billion units of flowers and ornamental plants are expected to be grown in Iran in the current year. While in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 19, 2020), 2.44 billion units of flowers and ornamental plants were grown in Iran.
