Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept.8 / Trend, S.Suleymanov /

Kazakh mobile communications operators plan to reduce service tariffs as of late 2010, the Kazakh Communications and Information Ministry told Trend today.

GSM Kazakhstan plans to reduce the cost on the most expensive minute from 29 to 19 tenge with VAT. The average price per minute will be nine tenge. Kar-Tel supported the initiative and also reduced its tariffs. Mobile Telecom Service's tariffs will also not exceed 19 tenge per minute.

"Clients are sure to appreciate their efforts to reduce service tariffs," Communications and Information Minister Askar Zhumagaliyev said in a press release.

The ministry reviewed the cost of mobile services earlier this year. The analysis revealed unusually high tariffs compared with other countries. The ministry then asked mobile operators to review their tariff policies and to reduce the service costs for their clients.

The operators were asked first and foremost to reduce the "interconnect tariffs" when calling from one mobile network to another. According to Kazakh mobile operators, earlier the rates on calls were excessively high due to the heavy interconnect tariffs.
