Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 9 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

SOCAR plans to begin drilling of the second exploration well in the recently discovered gas field Umid in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea by late March, the source in SOCAR said.

He said that the work is underway to transfer the drilling rig.

"At present, the equipment and drilling rig are transferred on the platform. According to the plans, the second well will be drilled on March 22," the source said.

While drilling the second well, all peculiarities of deposits, revealed in the process of drilling the first well, will be taken into account.

SOCAR is confident that there are 250 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate at Umid.

The Umid Field is located 75 kilometers from Baku. In 1953, the first geophysical works were carried out at the field. They were repeated in 1972 in a somewhat improved form. From 1977 to 1992, 9 wells were drilled without result.
