Three foreign companies are interested in the construction of a new refinery in Georgia. According to the Georgian government, the matter is currently being evaluated. The companies will then present their study results in the next three months.

The Georgian government said that big investments are required to work on the project and it will be necessary to start negotiations with Azerbaijan over the oil supply. The Georgian Partnership Fund is also involved in the issue along with private investors, as it gives state deposits.

It was earlier reported that the Korean company Daewoo Engineering started the preliminary operations in connection with the construction of the refinery in Georgia. Korean investors in the Georgian partner company explained that after the preliminary work it will be decided what type of plant will be built.

The construction of the refinery is one of the main items on the Georgian government's current agenda. The President said that the existence of such a plant must reduce Georgia's dependence on imported oil.
