BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 10

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Japan has invested 120 million euros into the second phase of the Persian Gulf Apadana petrochemical plant in Asalouyeh county of Iran’s southern Bushehr province, executive director of the plant Jalil Qasami said.

Qasami made the remark at a press conference in Iran, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

“The total projected amount of investments for this plant is $462 million,” the executive director added.

Qasami added that so far, equipment worth up to 250 million euros has been installed.

“The efforts are being made to use the domestically produced equipment,” the executive director added. “But some equipment that is not produced in Iran is bought from other countries.”

“Presently, the plant is capable of producing 5,000 tons of methanol daily,” Qasami added. “After the commissioning of Phase 2 of the plant, 1.6 million tons of methanol will be produced a year.”

Qasami said that 99.9 percent accounted for pure methanol produced in the plant.

"Presently, Iran produces 8.3 million tons of methanol,” the executive director said. “Some 300,000 tons are consumed domestically and the rest volume is exported.”

“The second phase of the plant will be put into operation in August 2020 and 47 percent of the construction operations have been carried out,” Qasami said.

The Persian Gulf Apadana petrochemical plant is a subsidiary of Iran's Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company.
