It was determined based on researches conducted in Iran two years ago (from March 21, 2018 to January 2, 2021), it is possible to create alternative renewable energy plants in Iran with a capacity of about 122,000 megawatt-hours, an official of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization of Iran, Mitra Gholami said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

Gholami emphasized that according to researches, it is possible to be installed 70,000-megawatt-hours solar panel stations in Iran.

He added that furthermore, Iran can also install 47,000-megawatt-hours wind turbines.

The official noted that based on the researches, it is possible to be constructed biomass power plants in Iran that generate 1,000 megawatt-hours of electricity.

According to Gholami, at the same time, it is possible to be built geothermal power plants in Iran that generate 1,000 megawatt-hours of electricity and small hydroelectric power plants that generate 2,500 megawatt-hours of electricity.

Iran's renewable energy power plants generated 5.57 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 20 through November 20, 2020).

At present, the electricity generation capacity of alternative renewable energy power plants in Iran is about 823 megawatt hours.
