Azeri railway department, CSC enter a deal with US company

The Azerbaijan State Railway Department (ASRD) and the Caspian Shipping Company (CSC) signed a contract with the US company ChevronTexaco on the transportation of Kazakh oil via the territory of Azerbaijan, Musa Panahov, the Deputy Transport Minister of Azerbaijan told Trend on 15 March.

The oil deliveries will start late 2006 early 2007 in the amount of 4-5 million tons of crude a year.

ChevronTexaco is involved in the oil production on biggest Kazakh field Tengiz. Oil will be shipped to Kazakhstan by tankers of CSC, onwards the Azerbaijani-Georgia railway to the Georgian port of Batumi.

Last year 26.2 million tons of different cargo was delivered via the Azerbaijani railway. 73.7% of them fell on oil and oil products.
