BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 17. A cascade of two small hydropower plants (HPPs) is set to be constructed in the Panfilov district of the Chuy region in Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports.

As per the information from Green Energy Fund under the Kyrgyzstan's Cabinet of Ministers, it is expected that the combined capacity of these two HPPs on the Jardy-Kaindy river will be 8 MW (4 MW each), with an annual electricity production of around 40 million kWh. The total investment volume for this project will exceed $10 million.

In September of the current year, the CEO of the Chakan HPP, Nurlan Sadykov, mentioned that small HPPs are necessary to address the challenges of delivering electricity to remote rural areas. When a small HPP is located within a village, it can ensure its independence from centralized power systems.

According to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the country generated 9.783 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from January through August 2023, which is an 8.9-percent increase compared to the same months in 2022 (8.985 billion kilowatt-hours).
