BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 13. Agricultural products worth 1.1 billion somoni ($100 million) were produced in the Khatlon region in the south part of Tajikistan from January through March 2023, which is 62.8 million somoni ($5.7 million) more than in the same period of 2022, Trend reports via Tajik media.

Out of the total amount of agriculture produced in the region, crop production accounts for 44.5 million somoni ($4 million), livestock - for 1. 96 million somoni ($179 million).

The region farmers have sown 237,900 hectares of land with crops as of the moment, of which 123,100 hectares were allocated for cereals, 76,060 hectares for industrial crops, 16,667 hectares for vegetables, 6,840 hectares for melons, 5,854 hectares for potatoes and 6,934 hectares for fodder crops.

As of April 1, the sowing of early vegetables was carried out on 37.5 hectares of the region’s greenhouses.

At the same, time 493 tons of vegetables were harvested from the greenhouses, including 139.5 tons of tomatoes, 73.6 tons of cucumbers, and 280.3 tons of other vegetables.

Overall, agricultural production in Tajikistan amounted to 49.3 billion somoni ($4.8 billion) in 2022, which is an increase of 8 percent compared to 2021.

Back in January, Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan Kurbon Hakimzoda said Tajikistan exported more than 191,000 tons of agricultural products worth $54.3 million in 2022.
