Iran's unemployment rate drops

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21. The unemployment rate among people aged 15 and older in Iran decreased by 0.9 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023), the statement of Iran's Statistics Center said, Trend reports.

According to the statistics, the number of unemployed in Iran last year amounted to about 2.15 million (2,148,119 people). It accounted for 8.1 percent of the active society in terms of employment.

The statistics indicate that the number of unemployed aged 15–24 years old was 540,000 (540,227) and the number of unemployed aged 18–35 years old was 1.5 million (1,501,498).

In addition, there were around 887,000 (887,061) unemployed Iranians with a bachelor's degree or above last year. This is a decrease of 1.1 percent over the previous year.

To note, the information notes that the number of persons aged 15 years and above in Iran during the mentioned period amounted to about 64.6 million (64,551,852). Out of them, 37.9 million (37,913,551) people were found to be economically inactive, and 26.6 million (26,638,301) people were found to be economically active.
