Tehran, Iran, November 11
By Mehdi Sepahvand –- Trend:
An Iranian inventor who says he has created the first water-powered engine says he is under “pressure and threats” from “powerful companies” in the energy sector because his invention can run in their market like a bull in a china shop.
If this invention is commercialized, then it will cut down hugely on the country’s fossil fuel consumption, which means a great shock to the economy, Alaeddin Qassemi told Trend November 11.
He says his innovation consists of breaking down water molecules into those of oxygen and hydrogen and then using the hydrogen as fuel. Qassemi has already used his own creation to power sedans.
According to Qassemi, the invention could also threaten the state-of-the-art hydrogen-powered cars currently produced by some car makers. “They want to postpone our technology a few decades so they can sell their products.”
He says so far 26 countries have invited him to bring them their technology, but he prefers his service to be used by his own countrymen.
He said he has not been able to register the invention inside Iran because of lack of cooperation, but is getting European and American patents for it.
According to Qassemi, unlike CNG-powered engines which lose efficiency driving uphill, this engine will provide ample energy for speedy drive.
The Iranian inventor says while each liter of gasoline produces 29 megajoules of energy, for hydrogen the energy output is 96 megajoules.
According to Qassemi, the sedan he has tried his invention on can store 60 liters of water and then drive 900 kilometers in 10 hours. The only emission, he says, is water vapor.
Qassemi says he is ready to start working with car makers to use a 50-50 gas and water-powered engine model in order to prevent a shock to the fuel sector.
He says his invention can also find application in household gas generation. “You would be able to use a kit the size of a laptop which runs on a normal cellphone adaptor and turn water into hydrogen for household consumption,” he says.
