( dpa ) - An bomb apparently targeting a motorcade in an area north of Beirut killed at least two persons and wounded 10 others, police and Red Cross officials in the area said.
According to initial reports the explosion was heard near Doura, north of Beirut, police said.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that the blast occurred while a motorcade of an official was passing by.
One eyewitness said that "two bodies" were seen inside a car belonging "to the American embassy in Beirut."
Local eyewitnesses said smoke was seen billowing into the sky from the area where the explosion took place.
