( dpa ) - Pakistani security forces continued searching Tuesday for the country's ambassador to Afghanistan, who went missing the previous day in the restive north-west tribal region where Taliban militants have become increasingly active.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammed Sadiq said they had no information confirming that Ambassador Tariq Azizuddin was kidnapped, as has been feared, and had not been contacted by anyone claiming responsibility for his disappearance.
"There's nothing new yet. The search is on for him," Sadiq said. "All the security forces for involved."
Azizuddin, his driver and bodyguard had been traveling by road from the Pakistani city of Peshawar to the Afghan capital of Kabul on Monday morning when they went missing in the Khyber region just before the border.
Last week, two Pakistani employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross also went missing in the same area.
