(ForUm) - Victor Yushchenko and his Estonian colleague, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, signed a Joint Declaration to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Ukraine and Estonia, reports Trend.
They also attended a roundtable involving members of the Council of University Rectors of Ukraine and Estonia, president's press office reported.
In his speech, the President welcomed the signed agreements as a step that will benefit the two countries. He expressed hopes educators in Ukraine and Estonia would reinforce cooperation to work out new scientific and educational plans.
We are ready to support exchange programs, he said, complimenting Ukrainian and Estonian schools on high standards.
Yushchenko also said it was important to develop humanitarian cooperation, particularly to train teachers of native language, history and literature.
He said Ukraine and Estonia live in the common European intellectual space, adding that Ukraine had joined the Bologna process and was adapting its curriculums to European standards. He opined that the face of the 21st century in any country is defined by two things: education and technologies.
