The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee does not intend to change the amount of the duty-free currency transfer from Azerbaijan, Aydin Aliyev, the chairman of the committee, said at a press conference on the outcome of 2015 and the upcoming challenges.

"We believe that taking into account the current realities, the permitted amount of the currency transferred without payment of customs duties, is quite sufficient," he said. "Today, POS-terminals for cashless payments are used all over the world, including Azerbaijan. It should be stressed that it is dangerous to carry a large amount of currency. The plastic cards are used for this purpose."

According to the legislation, each physical entity may transfer up to $10,000-cash from Azerbaijan without payment of customs duty.

Aliyev also stressed the limit on duty-free import of goods for personal use, adding that this limit will not be reconsidered.

"A $1,500-limit is enough for the duty-free import of goods for personal use to Azerbaijan," he said. "The issue of reducing this limit is not on the agenda, although, we have offered to reduce it."

Today, physical entities may import goods which are not intended for production or commercial purposes worth up to $1,500 (an additional amount of $ 500 for each accompanying person under 18 years old) without payment of customs duties.
