Japan interested in developing cooperation with Turkmenistan

Japan is interested in developing the cooperation with rapidly developing Turkmenistan, Daishiro Yamagiwa, Japanese state minister of economy, trade and industry, said at a business forum in Ashgabat, the government of Turkmenistan said July 1.

"Turkmenistan is steadily showing the high economic growth," he said. "The country is rich in natural resources."

The Japanese delegation is represented by dozens of the biggest firms and corporations, specializing in the fuel-energy sector, transportation sector, the design and construction of facilities, information and communication technologies, health and trade.

Such corporations as ITOCHU, Marubeni, Sojits, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, JOGMEC, Chioda, Sumitomo, JGC, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, the major trade associations and others are among them.

They are rendering diversified services and integrated solutions in various fields - from science and education to the equipment and investments.

The government officials, representatives of the leading ministries and departments, as well as the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs attended the forum from the Turkmen side.

A number of Japanese companies, promoting industrial development of Turkmenistan, have been successfully working in the country today.

The agenda of the business forum included the issues related to the practical implementation of the previously reached agreements, in particular, the construction of a modern gas chemical complex for production of polyethylene and polypropylene in the Kiyanly village and construction of the plant for production of gasoline and natural gas in Ovadandepe, Ahal province.

Moreover, in accordance with the contract signed with Turkmenhimiya state concern, Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan) and Gap Insaat (Turkey) carry out the construction of the plant for carbamide production in the Garabogaz city of Balkan province. The capacity of the enterprise will be 1.55 million metric tons per year.

Detailed discussions held on partnership in the electric power industry ended with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Turkmenistan's Energy Ministry and Japan's Sumitomo Corporation during the forum, according to the government message.

During the meetings held as part of the forum, Japan's Sojitz Corporation provided information about the projects for expanding the production of phosphate fertilizers at Turkmenabat chemical plant, while JGC and ITOCHU corporations briefed about the projects for natural gas processing and those related to the sphere of petrochemistry.

Moreover, the forum reviewed the proposals of the Japanese side on supply of the special equipment used at gas fields, technology for converting natural gas into liquid fuels (GTL), the construction of a cement plant and etc.
