Kazakhstan creates stabilizing food fund in Zhanaozen

An additional stabilizing food fund worth 493 million tenge will be created in the Zhanaozen city in Mangistau region of Kazakhstan, Kazakh Prime Minister's press service reports with reference to the Socio- Entrepreneurial Corporation "Caspian".

"The additional stabilizing fund for Zhanaozen totaling 493 million tenge will be formed based on new contracts with 7 Kazakh companies. Supply of 10 types of products will begin in the near future," the report says.

According to the SEC "Caspian", at present, food from the stabilizing fund is sold in Zhanaozen through six outlets and 7 mobile trade kiosks.

Mass riots hit the Kazakh oil town of Zhanaozen in the Mangistau region on Dec.16 killing 17 and injuring more than 100 people. Buildings and cars were burned and property of individuals and legal bodies destroyed. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev declared a state of emergency in Zhanaozen until Jan.31.

The official exchange rate is 148.23 tenge to $ 1 on Jan.5.
