The trial of Mehdi Hashemi, son of the former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was held in the Tehran Revolutionary Court on August 2.

The trial of Hashemi, who is being accused of corruption and country's security breach, was held behind closed doors, Iran's Mehr news agency reported.

Hashemi has been released on bail after three months of imprisonment in December 2012.

The son of the Iranian ex-president was arrested upon his arrival in Tehran from the UK, where he lived for three years. Hashemi was arrested on charges of propaganda against the state and corruption.

Before the court hearing, the advocate for Hashemi, Mahmoud Alizade Tabatabai told reporters that he has not been informed that the today's hearing is about financial charges or charges linked to protests against the disputed presidential elections of 2009.

In 2009, after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was elected president of Iran for the second term, the opposition leaders protested the decision, which later resulted in massive protests across Iran, in particular in Tehran.
