Sea crossings cancelled in Istanbul due to celebration of May 1

Some sea crossings were cancelled in Istanbul in connection with the celebration of May 1 on Wednesday, the Anadolu agency reported.

In addition, some intercity bus services were cancelled.

According to the agency, currently a tense situation remains in many cities of Turkey in connection with the celebration of May 1.

Turkish police is dispersing demonstrators in many central districts of Istanbul using tear gas. Several people were injured.

A group of supporters of the opposition Republican People's Party of Turkey is holding a procession in honour of May 1 which is International Workers' Day in the centre of Istanbul.

Yesterday Istanbul Mayor Huseyin Avni Mutlu said that the mayor's office has not allowed a procession in honour of May 1, therefore any rally will be considered unauthorised.

Mass procession of workers is annually held in Turkey on May 1, which often ends in clashes with the police.
