Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 February / corr Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Andreas Herkel and Yevgeniy Zhivkova, co-rappoteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee, who are currently visiting Azerbaijan, met with Mazahir Panahov, the chairman of the Central Elections Commission, on 5 February to familiarize themselves with the preparations for the upcoming presidential elections in November, the CEC told Trend.
Panahov said that the necessary steps will be taken to hold fair, transparent and democratic elections, to ensure that Azerbaijani citizens' election rights will be fully ensured. As part of the preparations for the presidential elections important steps have been taken to improve the work conditions for the lower election commissions, enlightenment of district and constituency elections commissions and lectors, as well as a clarification of electors' lists. New buildings composed of at least 7-8 rooms have been designed for 100 of the 125 stations.
Training courses are being conducted for members of the constituency and district election commissions to improve their professional skills.
Panahov said that the clarification of electors' list has began in the beginning of January. In this respect the CEC opened a 'hotline' and filmed an advertisement reel shown regularly on local television channels.
