Afghanistan, Kabul, Jan. 25 / Trend , A. Hakimi / The Afghan government has welcomed the posting of Richard Holbrooke, the Obama administration's new special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Holbrooke, who was the US special envoy to the United Nations in the past, is one of America's senior diplomats.
Afghanistan's foreign ministry, pointing out Obama's policies in Afghanistan, said the assignment of Richard Holbrooke as the US special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan will reinforce efforts to eradicate terrorist bases in the region.
The Afghan government has praised the appointment and said that the assignment of a special envoy to Afghanistan by the US government shows that Afghanistan is Obama's priority.
Some parliamentarians say if Obama administration's policies are implemented in Afghanistan, violence has a chance to diminish.
Barak Obama however has been in the forefront of western voices demanding the elimination of terrorist safe havens in Pakistan.
Now having assumed office as the fourty forth President of the United States, Obama stated during his inauguration address that Washington would shift strategic focus from Iraq to Afghanistan and make the Hindu Kush its war fighting priority.
People in Afghanistan hope that after coming Obama on power, considerable changes will come in Afghanistan.
