Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 28 / Trend , J.Babayeva/
The Azerbaijani left forces could not unify in one bloc.
The left forces including People's Socialist Party, Progressive Socialist and Left Democrat parties are forming a new bloc and intend to join the parliamentary elections as a bloc.
"Parties reached a preliminary agreement on cooperation. It is expected that socialist parties will form a bloc after passing state registration," Chairman of the Left Democrat Party (LDP) Elshan Manafov said to Trend on Jan. 28.
Socialist Party, Communist Party, Party of Single Communism and Communist Party of Azerbaijan have set up Union of Left Forces on the basis of the Marxism-Leninism platform in order to take part in municipal and parliamentary election with a unified platform.
Azerbaijan will hold municipal election in 2009 and parliamentary election - in 2010.
The People's Socialist Party was established in October 2008 and submitted relevant documents for registration. Chairman of the Progressive Socialist Party Rustam Shahsuvarov left the Azerbaijan Communist Party and formed his own party.
The socialist parties' blocs intend to be an organization representing socialist values in the country, Manafov said. "There are enough people, to support the left forces in the country. The socialist parties target to respect the right ones and at the same time to take the left slogans from them in future. This can also contribute to developing the right forces and forming a normal political atmosphere between the left and right forces," he said.
The socialist parties' bloc will prefer to function without communist parties, the LDP chairman said. "The socialist union will function without communists while respecting their ideology. Socialists should not be responsible for communists' mistakes in the history of statehood. Opinion of communists and socialists differ on property, capital and tax issues. Moreover, our attitude toward the current political reality in the country sharply differs from the communists," Manafov said.
Manafov said that People's Socialist, Progressive Socialist and Left Democrat Parties reached an agreement to form a analytic centre. "The centre will target to develop a anti-crisis program and submit to the government in February. Tendencies in Europe and U.S. demonstrate that these countries' parliaments and governments pay a special attention to the left parties' anti-crisis proposals," the LDP chairman said.
Manafov was the deputy chairman of the Social and Democrat Party of Azerbaijan for ideological issues and member of Bureau of Central Committee. Early September 2008, Manafov was dismissed from the party because of his blaming co-chairman of the party Araz Alizade for his incapability to rule over the political organization. Then Manafov decided to establish new left party with his supporters. It is planned to form a party in the first half of 2009.
